Black Love sounds beautiful all on its own, with no explanation. I will, however, explain how this term brings about a sense of pride and what it means to the Black American.

The Why

One would think that it would be a given for anyone to know that love and commitment reside within any group of people. But that has not always been the perception of blacks of African American descent. We were in many ways perceived to be a scattered people with broken relationships. This stems from having our families disassembled when being brought to this country. Having these notions placed upon us has been indeed unfair, which is why we have taken the term, Black Love, and used it as an assertion. We use this term to spread the truth that we are every bit as dedicated and have loving relationships and marriages that can withstand the test of time.

We Are Stronger Together

Through challenges big and small, black couples have found strength in one another facing everything from economic hurdles to racial injustices. To get through these types of struggles and remain together takes a special kind of love, a resilient love, and what we call black love. There is a sense of pride in that. There is a pride of an unshakeable bond because to come out on the other side of it all, still together and better, is indeed a reason to be proud.

Proving Society Wrong

Society has painted a very unflattering picture of family life for African Americans. A picture that is unfair and not entirely true. This same image can be found within all groups of people. People of all races have family issues. The term black love attached to a hashtag will show anyone exactly that. You will find the most beautiful and solid couples’ images alongside family images, displaying the beautiful truth, that Black Love is beautiful, Black Love is strong, and that Black Love is not going anywhere
