How a Mini Staycation in Orlando Saved My Sanity

Little Saigon Orlando FL

With the dramatic changes to our lives and the way we travel, these last few months have been especially hard for a lot of people. We have a seen a shift in many of the businesses we frequent and I was able to witness this firsthand as I booked myself into a hotel for a few days needing a change of scenery. I decided on a mini staycation in Orlando.

Towneplace Suites by Marriot

The city of Orlando is which about 90 minutes from my home in Florida. It’s one of the hottest tourism spots in the state, including our resident, Mickey Mouse. But it all looked quite different from the usual bumper to bumper traffic you may encounter while visiting.

I decided to stay at the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Orlando at SeaWorld. I always find the best deals around this area and most of the hotels offer free breakfast which is major plus, especially when traveling with children. This hotel has it all, including a literal view of SeaWorld and its thrilling roller coaster, Mako.

Spacious and Modern

The hotel is very modern and I found the rooms to be especially spacious. My room came with two queen beds, a nice sitting area and a kitchen with everything you could possibly need. The kitchen is a nice bonus travelers that may want to save some money by cooking and eating in.

Clean and Bright

Two very important things I look for when traveling are cleanliness and a bright space. The Towneplace Suites definitely provided those elements.

Free Breakfast Buffet

A free breakfast buffet is usually offered and I was saddened to hear that it was closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. I was told that the hotel is planing a way to make it easy and accessible but safe for the guests within the next few weeks. I was given a complimentary breakfast bag in the mornings which included a muffin, water and an apple. I had a great visit regardless and would recommend this hotel for those coming to the area. Great location, right next to Seaworld and Universal is only about a 10 minutes away.

No Trip is Complete without Good Eats

My hunt for great cuisine was not hindered, even with many places being closed. A Co-worker recommended me to visit Little Saigon. It’s a Vietnamese place located in downtown in Orlando. The outside of the building has beautiful street art which piqued my curiosity to go inside.

Inviting and Irresistable

The interior had a traditional feel but still brightly colored. The restaurant is spacious and has large widows giving it a nice bright and welcoming feel. I was originally going to take my food to go but the gentleman that welcomed me was very friendly and immediately pointed me to a table and started leading me to have a seat so I happily obliged.

Wanting to get a good variety of the cuisine I decided to try several items from the menu. I started off with their Spring Rolls which are fried and come with a nice acidic dipping sauce. Next, was their Spicy Garlic Chicken that came sauteed in a delicious sauce and a variety of peppers served with white rice. And I knew I couldn’t visit a Vietnamese restaurant without having some Phở . I chose the Chicken and was not disappointed. The broth was extremely flavorful and spicy.

Between the great food and welcoming atmosphere, both belly and mind were content. I can’t wait for my next visit to Little Saigon so I can explore the many options they have. Make sure to stop by and indulge next time you’re in Orlando. Your taste buds will thank you 😋

Hi, my name is Catherine. I am 31 from Brooklyn, New York and currently live in Central Florida. My journey for cuisine began years ago out of my love for cooking. I would watch videos and try new recipes which then led me on a journey to explore new restaurants and dive deeper into the world of cuisine. I began photographing the dishes, as well as the restaurant interior and uploading them on Google, where I also write short reviews on my overall visit. Food brings people together and knowing that so many rely on reviews and photos makes me want to continue contributing in any way I can.
